James DiResta is one of four very talented and creative siblings (Joey, John and Kathleen) out of the Five Town area of Long Island who enrolled in the School of Visual Arts as a student in 1986. He received BFA degree in 1990 and formed a toy design / production company with his older brother Joseph DiResta in 1992 known as DiResta Diversified, Inc. Mr. DiResta was in "hands on" charge of the entire production and manufacturing process from concept to off shore production for a variety of toy type products for many of the major toy industry corporations. “Jimmy”, as he is known to friends and colleagues, invented, designed and actually manufactured working prototypes for design, testing and eventual mass production overseas. Jimmy’s name is attached to over 20 toy and design patents in the United States.
In 1994 Jimmy began instructing future designers and creative talent as a teacher at the prestigious School of Visual Arts in Manhattan by creating and offering a two semester program in 3D modeling and design.
Over the last years, Mr. DiResta has focused some of his considerable design / fabrication talents on the creation of film and video works, and has worked with 16mm film as well as video. He has developed expert skills with Final Cut Pro and is currently learning to mange MAYA on the professional level.
Since 2001, the creative/business team of Diresta Diversified began their present exclusive “in house” working relationship with Fun-4-All, Inc. which is a toy corporation best know for “South Park” television program products and Fun-4-All will release it’s new line of Crayola Crayon products later this year.
In addition to all his on-going creative output, Mr. DiResta is currently a principal member of the production team for a new, national cable TV program called "Trash to Cash". Jimmy creates original, functional / artistic works out of found or street materials "on air" for different people each week. Along with the host / comedic talents of his well know and widely admired actor /comedian brother, John DiResta, the new program is a strong stand alone comedy entertainment and at the same time a unique opportunity for the average TV viewer to learn how complex fabrications can be accomplished in the most effective, exciting and clever manner. Jimmy performs on camera with brother John as the fast paced, high energy 30 minute TV program demystifies fabrication / creativity and keeps you laughing all at once. "Trash to Cash" is really must see TV show.
Along the way, Mr. DiResta has put on a variety of important art and photography shows on the historic and culturally colorful Lower East Side of Manhattan. One of his projects, for example, is a collection of pre 9/11 commercial iconography of the WTC tower icons as depicted on all variety of advertising and NYC area public images. Another photo gallery show presented full body portraits of dozens of "LES" citizens in their natural, “un-designed” appearance.
The future looks both complex and
bright. We can all watch and enjoy Jimmy DiResta’s new works and projects
as he continues to evolve and diversify as he is on the path to develop into
